The Hammond Area Recreation District No. 1 was created by ordinance of the Tangipahoa Parish Council in the mid-1990s and includes most of the corporate limits of the City of Hammond and the 7th ward. In November of 2010, a 10-mill proposition was approved by the voters and construction began in February 2011 on Chappapeela Sports Park. After two years of hard work, CSP held its Grand Opening Ceremony on January 31, 2013. Chappapeela Sports Park provides the finest recreational facilities and programs while offering an exceptional family environment.
